How to drag and drop items into other apps
You can drag any item from your clipboard history and drop it into another app, such as Finder, a text editor, a design tool or an email.
- Open ClipBook.
- Drag an item from the history list and drop it where you need it.
To drag several items at once, select them and drag one of the selected items. The items move together as a stack.
What the other app receives
ClipBook gives each type of item in the form the other app expects:
- Text and emails arrive as text.
- Rich text keeps its formatting in apps that support it. In other apps it arrives as plain text.
- Links arrive with their address and page title.
- Images arrive as PNG files. The file has the item’s name, or a name with the date and time you copied the image, like a screenshot. For example,
Image 2026-10-16 at 14.03.27.png. - Files arrive as the files themselves. An item with several files gives the other app each file separately.
- Colors drop into a color well as a color. In a text field, they arrive as the text you copied, such as
#FF5733.
Dragging a file always copies it, even to a folder on the same disk. The original file stays where it is.
Drag text with or without formatting
Dragged text follows the Prefer pasting as plain text option in Settings → History:
- When this option is enabled, which is the default, text, rich text, links, emails and colors are dropped as plain text.
- To keep the formatting, hold ⌥ when you start dragging.
When the option is disabled, it works the other way round. Images and files are not affected.
This feature is available in ClipBook 2.2.0 and later.
