How to export and import history
ClipBook can export your clipboard history and tags to an archive and import them back. Use it to move your history to a new Mac, to keep a backup, or to restore items you deleted.
The archive contains your history items with their formatting, images, link previews, favorites and tags. Your settings are not included.
Export history
- Go to Settings → Import.
- In the Export section, click Export….
- Choose where to save the archive, then click Save.
ClipBook saves your history as ClipBook Export.clipbookarchive. In Finder, the archive looks like a folder. Keep it as is and don’t change the files inside.
When the export is complete, ClipBook shows how many items and tags it exported.
Import history
- Go to Settings → Import.
- In the Import section, click Import….
- Select the .clipbookarchive folder you exported earlier, then click Open.
When the import is complete, ClipBook shows how many items and tags it imported, and the items appear in your clipboard history.
Import adds the items from the archive to your current history. It does not replace or delete anything:
- If an item from the archive is already in your history, ClipBook updates it instead of creating a duplicate.
- If a tag with the same name already exists, ClipBook reuses it.
- If an item from the archive is in the Trash, ClipBook restores it.
ClipBook doesn’t save anything you copy while the import is in progress.
Items older than the history limit
If some imported items are older than the history limit for their type, ClipBook asks what to do with them:
- Click Keep Items to keep them. ClipBook sets the history limit for these types to Unlimited.
- Click Delete to delete them right away.
You can change the history limit later in Settings → Storage.
