How to paste and delete items
Some items are only good once, such as one-time codes, temporary passwords or a list of values you paste one by one. ClipBook can paste such an item and remove it from your clipboard history in one step.
Paste and delete the selected item
- Open ClipBook and select the item.
- Press ⌥↵.
ClipBook pastes the item the same way ↵ does, then deletes it. To paste and delete with the secondary paste action, press ⌥⇧↵. For example, if ↵ pastes plain text, ⌥⇧↵ pastes with formatting and deletes the item.
To paste and delete several items, select them and press ⌥↵.
You can also do it with the mouse or the Command Palette:
- Right-click the item and hold ⌥. The Paste to {APP_NAME} item changes to Paste to {APP_NAME} & Delete.
- Open the Command Palette and select a command that ends with & Delete, such as Paste to {APP_NAME} & Delete.
Paste and delete the next item without opening ClipBook
Use these global shortcuts to work through a list of items without opening the clipboard history:
- ⌃⌥V pastes the next item and deletes it. By default, it pastes plain text.
- ⌃⌥⇧V pastes the next item with formatting and deletes it.
Each time you press the shortcut, ClipBook pastes the next item in the history and deletes it. If you copied the items as a copy sequence, they are pasted in the order you copied them.
These shortcuts work only while the clipboard history window is closed.
Restore an item you pasted and deleted
Pasted and deleted items move to the Trash. To bring one back, press ⌘Z in ClipBook, or put it back from the Trash.
When Paste & Delete is not available
If Always keep favorites and tagged items is enabled in Settings → Storage, Paste & Delete is not offered for favorites and tagged items. This option is enabled by default. The global shortcuts paste such items without deleting them.
Change the keyboard shortcuts
To change the shortcuts, go to Settings → Shortcuts:
- Paste and delete selected item and Paste and delete selected item with secondary action are in the Item actions group.
- Paste next item and delete and Paste next rich item and delete are in the Global shortcuts group.
This feature is available in ClipBook 2.2.3 and later. The global shortcuts are available in ClipBook 2.4.0 and later.
